So I beat the game on my first try, and got 74 deaths. I'm not sure if that's good or bad seeings as the leader board won't work for me, but I'm pretty happy with less than 75. It got to the point where I was so pissed off that I couldn't be bothered waiting. And level 14 was like... the hardest for me. There's hardly any room to move and if you make the slightest mistake, you're dead. I also noticed a few slight bugs, where I'd complete the level even though I only close to the green area. This only really helped on one level, but yeah. Good game, it was surprisingly fun to play.
It had a few problems.
The game itself is alright, but it's extremely difficult. People think the first level is hard, what about the second with teleporting ninjas that appear out of nowhere? The zombie level was a joke too. The red guy that could hit you from almost anywhere on the screen was a boss, right? So how come he'd spawn over and over again. One hit takes of 1/3 of your health. I killed him three times in one life, and then I of course died because even standing beside a skeleton drains your health. Have you actually tried to complete this yourself? Most of the time I had to jump about, barely hitting things with the edge of my weapon. It would be a lot better if I could actually take more than a few hits before I'm about to die.
In short: It's far too hard, the enemies spawns are really hard to keep up with and they take off too much health when they hit you.
That being said, I liked the graphics and the gameplay. It's the kind of thing that (if it's easy) keeps your attention for a long time. The story seemed pretty interesting too, but I didn't get further than the necromancer resurrecting his dead brother. When he brought him back it looked amazing, but the little pagan symbol spoiled it slightly, it looked out of place.
If you change it to make things easier, I'll enjoy playing it a lot. Right now it seems like a waste of effort though, as each level would probably take ten-thirty minutes and there isn't even a save feature (I don't think).
I'm probably being overly critical, but there you go.
Yes i have completed the game under the same conditions you are under. If it helps, when the red demon thing spawns, go right over to him so he cant hit you with the blade of his sword and slash at him. Otherwise, use block and dash attacks to kill the other undead. I know i've said this a lot but blocking and dashing may save you :)
Thank you so much for the good review.
I was a bit surprised when I saw this in the portal; I loved the first one but heard nothing about a sequel coming out. I tried playing it last night, and found the same bug as mentioned below; that double jump is a bitch. After attempting to re-play it, I found an even weirder one. If you click new game but wait at the tutorial screen, your character (or the enemy) seems to start saying things, and then when you do start to play, all enemies that spawn immediately die. I got 21 kills with zero damage.
Anyway, onto the game review. At first, it seemed to be roughly like the original. After a bit of playing around, I noticed that there are a lot more moves you can use, and a much larger space to maneuver around. The extra moves seemed to complicate things a lot, but I guess it just requires some getting used to. Being able to jump with the arrow keys would be a whole lot easier though, maybe the up arrow for jumping and the down arrow for blocking? Apparently D is block as well as attack, which I didn't really get. I'd assume that you're meant to press it right before getting hit, but it would give you more control to have separate attack/defend buttons.
The shop was a good idea. It added a new dimension to the game, and gave me more of a reason to get better ratings. Being able to upgrade your favourite weapons is really good, before you'd find a better sword and your old one became pretty much obsolete (at least I THINK you can do that, I haven't checked myself yet). I liked being able to use items too, those would be handy for the long, difficult boss battles.
The other new features were alright I suppose. All I really got to test out was grappling and stealing your enemy's weapon, which doesn't seem that useful. Maybe I'd do that if I was trying to weaken them, or if they had some kind of special weapon... Generally I'd just stick with my own sword though. Taunting is only good if you're focusing on a high rating, which would be alright for some people (not me though). Perhaps you could make it so that it heals you, and gives you a little magic too? It might already do that, I didn't notice at the time. You could even it out by making the taunt last longer. The barriers were ok, the red one is a bit pointless, but the blue one adds a puzzle aspect, which is kind of nice.
All in all, it was a good game that was spoilt by a few bugs. I think it'd be great if you fix them, but it's not much fun playing a game if it could glitch at any time. If you did test this alone, then the glitches are understandable, but you should look into finding some other people to help in the future. I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to do it, because it's a good game. I'd even be willing to help out, if you wanted.
Oh, and one quick question: Do you have any idea when (if) you'll release the next issue? Just wondering out of curiosity. I'll look forward to playing it, if there's going to be one.
This turned out to be a long review :3 I'll be surprised if many people read it.
thanks . A real review. though next issue, please play it front to back okay?
Im getting a little agitated. Not with you though.
Stealing does a few things.
A - It makes it so the enemy cannot shield against you.
B - it makes him unable to attack.
C - Stolen Weapons Can be thrown.
D - Or since theyre light used in aerial attacks. Its a crutch for people yet to unlike more powerful weapons.
E - The kill prompt will make Encon do a different move than if the enemy was armed.
I dont know when the next issue will be done unfortunately. Nemesis is working on the music and Im doing concept art atm. Also working on my overdo portfolio.
I am working on the bugs. This is what happens when your beta team ditches you. those bastards.
Issue 2 will bring in some familiar faces so look forward. and right off the bat. You unlock a new weapon. Called dudagera. Which is simialar to the blades of chaos. (wasnt originally meant to be)
Dudagera is a kasari gama. which is a small sythe or sickle chained to a weight. In the end since it ended up being my fire weapon . It attacks sorta like the blades of chaos.
thanks for your time, youre one of the few NGers who knows what a review is.
You're getting a vasectomy
This reminds me of my pet fetus, she lives on my shelf in a jar.
Laugh at the pointlessness?
Why does it have to be pointless? You could add a few things to make this into an appealing game, the most obvious thing being levels. People love easy games that have a lot of levels after all. It looks like you're a leprechaun right? Swap the apples for beer and there's your average flash gamer entertained with a simple storyline. Put him on an epic quest to get as drunk as possible and there you go.. Oh, and actually just having to fly into the targets would probably be funner that trying to circle them, good old' simplicity. If that sounds too stupid, you could add things to dodge too. Yeah, maybe a move strip giving a bit of story between levels would be nice too.. I don't know, if you were just messing around for fun then fair enough, but there's a few suggestions
Ah, and it wasn't a bad game as it is by the way :)
Really good game
I like this kind of game, and I've played a lot of them.. But wow! That's probably the best maze game ever :D
It was just.. Perfect.. But, there was two problems, like someone else said you can just right click and cheat :\
And if you die you can right click the edge of the screen and just skip the level..
Other than that, it was amazing :]
And i hope you make more
Wow, those are both odd glitches that shouldn't work at all. I mean whenever I rightclick it sends me back a level. Oh well. Let anyone who can do it ruin the game for themselves. :P
But wow, thanks a lot for the review.
I used to love that game :)
You're version was a nice copy, it was a bit like the original.. But a little bit harder ^_^
I think it's due to the arrow keys, I wasn't really too good and didn't make it too far :\
But it was still a fun, simple game. And I hope it gets saved :D
Huge fan of Lord of the Rings :D
And this game sort of felt like it could have been back in middle earth, and I love games like that :)
But there were a few bits that I did dislike, for example.. The mage can only learn a few spells.. And you can't have a huge army of many different types of units. Things like that would probably keep people more interested :|
It would be nice to see that added to the sequel, but even if it isn't.. I'm sure it will be great anyway.
It was a good game, but it had just a few small flaws..
Like one, no magic spells. You get wand's but they just aren't the same. And you couldn't really train on things and learn new attacks ect...
Plus the last guy was way to easy.. All you need is an even mix of all stats and you can kill him without much trouble.. Along with a few health potions that is..
But on the whole, it was great fun, and I can't wait to play you're future ones :D
I hate that style of game :(
Rpg's are amazing, but I don't like games that... Well rely on the throw of a dice.. I prefer it when i can take control :\
Maybe if you got the graphics up a notch, or made a better tutorial perhaps..?
I'm sure a lot of people will love this.. But.. I'm not one of them..
